Congratulations Ilina Joshi, Junior, and Ishani Joshi, Sophomore!

Congratulations to Ilina and Ishani Joshi on the remarkable achievement of each having their writing accepted for publication in the highly regarded Helicon Yale Classics Journal. The annual publication is focused on literary works of undergraduate students and only rarely considers stories from high school students. Editors of the Helicon requested writing in Latin or English on the topic of "medicine and magic." The goal of the section was to engage Middle School students who are interested in Latin and Classics. Ilina's story was written in English and titled, The Willow Lantern. It beautifully responded to the suggested theme and included lyrical imagery, "the lantern’s glow pooled at the base of an enormous oak tree," and portrayed healing rooted in "knowledge, compassion, and bravery." Ishani submitted a story written in Latin titled, The Power of Aeneid. In it, a young Roman student of medicine and rhetoric is walking to class trying to memorize a couple lines from the Aeneid when all of a sudden he helps a very sick slave in the most unexpected way possible. This impressive national recognition is a testament to the girls' talent, dedication, and bright future in the classics.
