Technical Theater Coordinator/Upper School Technical Theater Teacher

Brookfield Academy, a private, independent, college preparatory day school, is seeking a Technical Theater Coordinator and Upper School Technical Theater Teacher to support a dynamic K-12 performing arts program. This role oversees the technical production of campus events, theater performances, and arts events while mentoring students in technical theater skills and collaborative production practices.

Working closely with the Executive Director of the Arts and production teams, the coordinator manages lighting, sound, scenic construction coordination, and stage operations for six theater productions each year, along with music concerts, visual arts events, and campus programming. The coordinator works within a collaborative arts department with active student crews and faculty production teams, creating a sustainable and supportive production environment.

About the Program
Brookfield Academy maintains a vibrant K–12 arts program serving students from Primary School through Upper School. Each year the theater program produces multiple productions across divisions, including an Upper School fall play and musical, Middle School and Lower School productions, student showcases and visiting artists.

Students participate both onstage and backstage, with technical crews playing an essential role in the production process. The program emphasizes student leadership, craftsmanship, and collaboration, providing hands-on opportunities for students to develop skills in scenic construction, lighting, sound, stage management, and technical design that support the development of creative skill for college and life.

Productions are supported by a collaborative team that may include faculty directors, choreographers, music directors, guest designers, parent volunteers, and student technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate technical production for campus events, school theater productions, and arts events
  • Program and operate lighting, audio, and media systems (ETC lighting systems, QLab, digital audio consoles)
  • Plan and supervise scenic construction projects and load-ins with student crews and volunteers
  • Maintain a safe and well-organized shop and technical equipment inventory
  • Teach one or more Upper School technical theater courses such as Stagecraft, Technical Theater, or Set Design
  • Recruit, train, and mentor student technical crews
  • Collaborate with directors, choreographers, music faculty, and guest designers throughout the production process
Qualifications
  • BA or BFA in Technical Theater, Theater Production, or related field
  • 2–5 years experience in theater production or educational theater environments
  • Experience with lighting programming, audio systems, and scenic construction
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills 
  • Outstanding ability to mentor students and manage complex production projects with a collaborative mindset
Physical Requirements
This position involves physical work typical of theatrical production environments, including managing heavy equipment, lifting materials (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders and operating lifts, moving scenery, and participating in production load-ins and strikes.
