Private Music Lessons

Your BA scholar can study music with highly qualified private instructors on campus after school. Whether they are just beginning on an instrument, expanding their skills to enhance their experience in choir, band, or strings, or looking to reach a new level of musical mastery, our teachers will take them there.
 
Enjoy the convenience of completing music lessons in a supportive and challenging environment. Schedules are flexible to meet your student’s needs.

  • Primary School

    Brookfield Academy offers individual lessons to students in Levels B–2, in Independence Hall, for the following instruments:
    • Piano

    Level A students may only enroll if a parent will attend all lessons with their student. 
  • Lower School

    Brookfield Academy offers individual lessons to students in Levels 3–5, in Independence and Liberty Halls, for the following instruments:

  • Angela Jacoby - Woodwinds

    BM UW-Whitewater
    Angela studied under Dr. Matthew Sintchak and Dr. Nicholas Zoulek while earning her degree in Instrumental Music Education, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in May of 2022. While attending Whitewater, she performed with the University's Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensembles, Saxophone Ensemble and Quartets, Pep Band, and Marching Band. She was able to perform at places such as Carnegie Hall and Lambeau Field. The saxophone quartet that Ms. Jacoby was a part of during her collegiate career was chosen to perform for several university events and was coached by numerous professional saxophonists including Dr. Keneth Tse, the members of Ancia Saxophone Quartet, and the members of Capitol Saxophone Quartet.
  • Marcya McReynolds - Voice & Piano

    BA Roosevelt University/Chicago Musical College
    Ms. McReynolds has over thirty years of experience teaching voice. She is a frequent performer with credits including: Jazz at Lincoln Center, Lyric Theater of Illinois, and Bel Canto Chorus of Milwaukee. She loves teaching students on material they are passionate about in a wide range of genres from opera to jazz and musical theatre. Listen to Marcya McReynolds here and here.
  • Allyson Smalley - Voice

    BA Luther College - Voice & K-12 Music Education
    As a classically trained vocal musician, Mrs. Smalley believes in a holistic approach to teaching voice by connecting vocal production and technique to traditional yogic based breathing, meditation and movement. Students can expect to explore breath work, music vocabulary, vocal technique, repertoire in varied styles & genres (i.e. classical, musical theatre, contemporary, pop, etc.), and mindfulness practices for presentations and performance anxiety. She has completed Orff Graduate Music Levels 1, 2, and 3 at the University of St. Thomas and most recently taught music at The Prairie School for nine years while serving as Performing Arts Department Chair for five years.

  • Dana Federmeyer

    BM Music Education, UW-Whitewater
    MA Educational Leadership, UW-Milwaukee
    Dana Federmeyer is an engaging performer and educator in the Milwaukee Metro area. Graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, she then assumed the title of orchestra director in the School District of Waukesha and later in the School District of New Berlin, where she remained until May of 2020.

    As an orchestra director Dana has conducted several musicals, hosted dozens of performances and arranged events and activities for students across the country. During that time Dana also maintained a vibrant private studio, performed in several community ensembles, including the Concord Chamber Orchestra as a violist and began working with the Wisconsin School Music Association as a festival adjudicator and coach for the Wisconsin High School Honors Orchestra. An accomplished educator and leader, Dana has acquired her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership through the University of Milwaukee and as such maintains a strong passion for program development and growth. Brookfield Academy welcomed Dana as a string instructor in January of 2023.

    Dana lives in Wauwatosa with her husband Jacob, two daughters Gracie and Mila, and two dogs, Suzy and Lorelei.
  • Grace Sorenson

    Grace Sorenson has taught piano in the Milwaukee area for four years. While attending UW-Milwaukee, she studied under Dr. Otwell and performed both solo and collaborative works on the piano. Grace teaches at Brookfield Academy, St. John Vianney School in Brookfield, and has a private studio in the Whitefish Bay area. She is also the Minister of Music at St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she plays both piano and organ. She has presented at the National Conference for Keyboard Pedagogy and the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association Conference and has been published in Piano Inspires Magazine run by the Frances Clark Center. She believes that every student is capable of playing the piano, and loves to push students to new levels of success. Many of her students participate in the WMTA Badger State Piano Competition and the WMTA Composition Competition. Her lessons have an emphasis on creating well rounded musicians with a strong sense of personal responsibility. "A student is almost always motivated to practice if he leaves his lessons feeling capable." - Frances Clark.
  • Sarah Kwon (Suae Yun) - Piano

    BM Northeastern Illinois University
    Miss Kwon studied under Susan Tang and Inna Falicks for her degree in Piano Performance at Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago. She has 15 years of teaching experience and enjoys helping students achieve their musical goals. Listen to Sarah Kwon here.
