Level 5 Curriculum

Reading

Upon completion of Level 5, our students have reached the apex of the Lower School. They can spell, have mastered phonics, and have acquired an impressive vocabulary. Students complete their formal study of grammar in Level 5: clauses and analogies are taught, all eight parts of speech are reviewed, and complex sentences are diagrammed. Reading time-honored classics extends each student’s knowledge of good literature and strengthens vocabulary.

Writing

In Level 5, cursive is expected in all subjects aside from spelling. Students apply their mastery of phonics, spelling, and grammar concepts within their writing, employing the six traits of good writing. Fledgling research projects are written at this level in preparation for Middle School.
