Reading
Students thoroughly review phonics rules, and learn to spell sight words from the spelling curriculum. In addition to McGuffey, a few chapter books of classical literature, including Beatrix Potter’s works, become staples of student reading and coincide with vocabulary curriculum. It is also in Level 2 that the study of grammar becomes a formal subject; six of the eight parts of speech and the four kinds of sentences are taught through the process of diagramming.
Writing
In Level 2, cursive handwriting is introduced. Students continue strengthening their foundational writing skills.
