All positive COVID-19 tests, tracing, and quarantines will be handled on a case-by-case basis at school through our Health Office. We will make decisions based on the number of COVID-19 cases among staff and students. If the number of positive cases increases within a specific classroom, division, or on campus, additional protocols may be added when necessary. These additional protocols may include masking, and changes to tracing or quarantine procedures.
Masks are optional at this time. All teachers and students are welcome and encouraged to wear masks at any time on campus. Some of our teachers have chosen to wear masks regardless of their vaccination status. Teachers/Staff who are not vaccinated are expected to wear masks indoors and in group settings or when teaching/meeting with students. Teachers, students, and staff who enter a “masked” classroom must be masked before entering the room.

Masks must meet the following requirements:
  • Well-fitted without gaps
  • Wire at the top nose area
  • More than one layer of material
  • Cannot be gaiters

Any student testing positive for COVID-19 must remain home for 10 days from either the onset of symptoms or a positive test result, whichever is earlier. On day 11, the student may return if symptom and fever free for 24 hours.

Middle and Upper Schools:
Students who had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19:
  • If asymptomatic, students may return to school and are required to wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following the exposure or until COVID-19 test is negative.   Students can get tested on the sixth day after exposure.
  • If symptomatic, students must remain home and get tested on the sixth day from the onset of symptoms and may return after day eight if symptom free for 24 hours.
Primary and Lower Schools:
Students who had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19:
  • Students must remain home and get tested on the sixth day of their quarantine. Students may return after receiving a negative COVID-19 test result (test must occur on or after day six) if symptom free for 24 hours and return after day eight.
  • If a student was wearing mask, was determined to be a direct exposure (three feet for 15 or more total minutes) of another student who has tested positive for COVID-19 and was also wearing a mask, the student considered the direct exposure does not need to quarantine. The student can continue at school while wearing a mask while monitoring for possible COVID-19 symptoms. Testing options will be communicated by the Health Office.
Parents of students will be notified by phone or email if they have had an exposure to a COVID-19 positive person and will be provided information and next steps to take by our Health office. Brookfield Academy will continue to share the number of positive cases on its weekly COVID-19 dashboard. All COVID-19 cases and family information is confidential between the school and family.

Brookfield Academy will not provide testing on campus but has worked with Summit Health Clinic as a licensed COVID-19 testing center. We will accept a PCR test result performed by a licensed health agency. In some situations, parents have also requested mental health resources for their children related to COVID-19. These resources can be found here.

During quarantine, students will continue their academics through Google Classroom with teacher support. Please reach out to your child’s respective classroom teacher by email for specific details on Google Classroom.

Please contact the Health Room before you travel. A negative COVID-19 test, masking, or a period of quarantine may be necessary before your student may return to school.
