COVID-19

Dear Brookfield Academy Families:

We want to share some information regarding our COVID-19 protocols. Please refer to this page for the latest COVID-19 updates at Brookfield Academy. Review the guidelines and information linked here.

As we begin another school year, we ask parents, students, and teachers for their conscious efforts in helping to maintain a healthy and safe environment on our campus. We need to work together in the spirit of the Academy Triangle to provide our students with a quality “in-person” learning experience expected of Brookfield Academy. We will continue to monitor the school community and county conditions allowing us to make decisions in the best interests of our students and staff.

  • GENERAL SCHOOL OPERATIONS DURING COVID-19

Brookfield Academy plans to run as close to a normal schedule as possible as we begin the 2021-22 school year. If conditions change, adjustments to protocols will be communicated as soon as possible. We’re continually reviewing new information and balancing key elements of our school Mission: Personal freedom and personal responsibility. We’re relying on everyone in our community to do the same so we can achieve our #1 priority to have students “in-person” learning in our classrooms.

  • PARENT'S ROLE WITH COVID-19

Parents, we need your help in monitoring your child’s health at home each day before arriving at school. PLEASE do the following:
    • Check your child for any illness and COVID-19 symptoms - fever, cough, fatigue, sore throat, etc.
    • KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME if sick and let your Division office know. This is so important.
    • Students who have any symptoms are encouraged to see their physician or get tested before returning to school.
    • Students can return to school when they are symptom-free for 24 hours and/or received a physician's release, or have received a negative COVID-19 test.
    • Report absences due to a positive COVID-19 test or exposure within the household.
  • STUDENT'S ROLE WITH COVID-19

    • If not feeling well STAY HOME. Inform your parents of your symptoms and do not return to school until symptom free for 24 hours.
    • Maintain your physical distance (three feet or more) to others when at school indoors and in your classroom. You are encouraged to wear a mask in any setting while indoors.
    • Wash your hands and use hand sanitizer often.
    • Wipe down desks/work area after using or at the discretion of your teacher.
    • If determined to be a “direct exposure” to someone who tests positive for COVID-19, work with our Health Office and your parents to monitor your symptoms and determine your status to remain in school.
    • As best as you can, stay current with your classwork if at home due to illness or quarantine. Your teachers will work with you to keep you on track.
  • BROOKFIELD ACADEMY'S ROLE WITH COVID-19

All positive COVID-19 tests, tracing, and quarantines will be handled on a case-by-case basis at school through our Health Office. We will make decisions based on the number of COVID-19 cases among staff and students. If the number of positive cases increases within a specific classroom, division, or on campus, additional protocols may be added when necessary. These additional protocols may include masking, and changes to tracing or quarantine procedures.

FAQs

List of 4 items.

  • Who should I contact for questions on campus related to health concerns?

Please contact the Brookfield Academy Health Office for any questions related to your child's health:

Primary School and Middle School: Ann Rauh, 262-252-6652
Lower School and Upper School: Julie Elfelt, 262-252-6657
  • What should I do if my child has one or more of these symptoms?

Please keep your child at home and inform the respective Division office.* We ask that you contact your family physician if your child has any of the COVID-19 symptoms, or has been near someone with COVID-19. Your physician can decide on what your next steps should be.

    *Division Phone Numbers
    Primary School: 262-252-2242
    Lower School: 262-252-6655
    Middle School: 262-252-2241
    Upper School: 262-252-2240
  • What if my child gets teased for wearing or not wearing a mask?

Each division will be addressing the message of individuality and character in assembly, classroom, or advisory that all students will be treated with kindness and respect no matter what their masking decision is. No student or family should feel that their decision to mask or not to mask is the wrong one. This is a parent and student choice that must be respected. Students will be given consequences for their actions if ever mistreating another student for wearing or not wearing a mask. We hope parents will have this discussion with their children as well.
  • Is there a remote learning option like last year’s BA@Home?

No, there is no longer a BA@HOME option available for students off-campus. Students who are sick or are isolated due to a direct exposure to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 will work with their classroom teachers through email and Google Classroom in doing their best to complete missing lessons and assignments. The only time remote learning will be considered as an option is if Brookfield Academy decides to close one of the Divisions for a period of time due to COVID-19.
BA families, please access the MyBA portal for additional information.
