Junior Riya Vijayapal Volunteers in India

Riya Vijayapal recently visited India to volunteer in a medical camp. Here's what she had to say about this amazing experience:

"I had the opportunity earlier this month to volunteer at a medical camp at the N.R.Doshi Eye hospital in the village of Wankaner, India. I worked in the OR where I watched both children and adults (terrified as they have never been put under anesthesia before) being operated on. During this week, I witnessed and experienced a different side of the world which helped me grow as an individual and furthered my interest in medicine. I was amazed by the amount of love and gratitude expressed by the villagers to one another and to the staff and volunteers at the hospital, even during some very stressful times. I had the opportunity to meet and work alongside people from around the world with the same passion for medicine and for helping others. This was an opportunity I am extremely thankful for and one I will never forget."
