COVID-19
GENERAL SCHOOL OPERATIONS DURING COVID-19
Brookfield Academy plans to run as close to a normal schedule as possible as we begin the 2021-22 school year. If conditions change, adjustments to protocols will be communicated as soon as possible. We’re continually reviewing new information and balancing key elements of our school Mission: Personal freedom and personal responsibility. We’re relying on everyone in our community to do the same so we can achieve our #1 priority to have students “in-person” learning in our classrooms.
DAILY CURRICULAR AND EXTRACURRICULAR PROGRAM
Brookfield Academy will begin the school year on Tuesday, August 24. School classes, events, and activities will take place as scheduled:
- In-person classroom instruction, including lunches and assemblies.
- Extracurricular activities, athletics, clubs, CODA, and after-school care will be fully available in all Divisions.
- Special events, choir and band concerts, drama, and field trips will all be offered this school year.
MASKING
Masks are optional at this time for students, staff, and guests. All teachers, students, and visitors are welcome and encouraged to wear masks at any time on campus. Some of our teachers have chosen to wear masks regardless of their vaccination status. Teachers/Staff who are not vaccinated are expected to wear masks indoors and in group settings or when teaching/meeting with students. Teachers, students, and staff who enter a “masked” classroom must be masked before entering the room.
Masks must meet the following requirements:
- Well-fitted without gaps
- Wire at the top nose area
- More than one layer of material
- Cannot be gaiters
Masks will be required when riding school buses and/or school vans because of the federal mask mandate. During field trips, athletics, and other school activities, adults and students will be required to wear a mask on the bus or van.
MAINTAINING PHYSICAL DISTANCING
Schools will return to their normal classroom routine with specials including library, but will plan as much physical distancing as possible within those classes.
Divisions will have a new lunch program called TAHER. We will slightly modify lunch schedules and seating to allow more physical spacing in the lunchrooms, gym, or outside.

PARENTS AND VISITORS
Parents and visitors will be allowed at all Divisions to drop off materials/lunches at the main office. If parents or visitors are experiencing symptoms (fever, body aches, loss of taste or smell, etc.), or have had close contact with someone confirmed to have, or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 10 days, please reschedule your visit. All parents wishing to meet with an administrator or teacher must schedule an appointment in advance.
CLEANING PROCEDURES
The following will be continuing on campus this school year:
- Normal three-foot spacing in classrooms.
- Increased outside air into our HVAC, with 6-10 air exchanges per classroom per hour where possible.
- MERV 13 filters installed in HVAC units.
- Air filtration system for gyms and drama areas.
- After-school cleaning procedures continued.
- Frequent hand washing encouraged for all.
- Hand sanitizer stations located throughout the school.
- Teachers and staff will continue to clean high-touch areas regularly in their classrooms.
COVID-19 SYMPTOMS
The following symptoms could indicate a COVID-19 infection:
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- New loss of taste or smell
- Congestion or runny nose
- Fever (100.4 or greater) or chills
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Muscle (myalgia) or body aches
- Sore throat
It is important to know that you can still transmit the virus to others even if you have mild symptoms or no symptoms. Additionally, if your child has one or more of these symptoms, you should keep your child home for at least 24 hours or until symptoms free.

Each school will follow the dress code guidelines as stated in the Parent-Student Handbook that all students and parents have signed. Please contact your respective Division Head or Dean of Students for questions related to student dress.

Students will get to use their lockers. We will need to maintain some distancing guidelines when students are in close vicinity of each other in the locker areas.
