Brookfield Academy 50th Reunion

Alumni Update - Sue Soyka Hardesty

Graduation Year: 1972
College: Undergraduate: Rice University + Georgetown University; Graduate School: The George Washington University
Career: Oh man--I might need more than 500 words for this! I am now retired. I worked on the Hill for ten years, for the US House of Representatives and the US Senate; US Export-Import Bank. I had various part-time jobs when the kids were little at The Brookings Institution; as a magazine editor for various publications; and for the last 15 years of my career at the Central Intelligence Agency. My best, but non-paying, job was staying home with our two young sons.
Where have you lived: Our primary residence is in Arlington, Virginia; however, we got an apartment in Albuquerque, NM last year to split our time between our sons' families so we can spend quality time with grandchildren in both places. Pre-pandemic I was coming to Wisconsin frequently to help my brother care for my 95-year-old mom.
Frank and I will celebrate our 48th wedding anniversary this year. We have two sons, both married with children. Our older son and his wife have three kids ages 8, 6, and 3 and our younger son and his wife have a newborn.

My volunteer work plans--to help disadvantaged kids read--have been upended by the pandemic. My main "hobby" is doing stuff with the grandkids. My hobbies include hiking, biking, and reading. I'm sure many of you don't know that I played competitive women's ice hockey for many years, including going to several national tournaments, which, alas, I no longer do.
