Biography
Dr. Robert E. Solsrud Dr. Solsrud became Brookfield Academy's Head of School in 1993. Prior to assuming this position, he served at Brookfield Academy for 22 years with tenures as Head of each of the three divisions, as athletic director, as football and basketball coach, and as Upper School biology and chemistry teacher. A Wisconsin native, he taught for three years in the city of Milwaukee before accepting a position at Brookfield Academy. Dr. Solsrud earned his masters and doctorate in educational policy and leadership from Marquette University. Dr. Solsrud is a visionary leader, committed to staying true to Brookfield Academy's mission by recruiting, hiring, and mentoring faculty, implementing school policies, and coordinating all administrative functions. He embraces the privilege of guiding Brookfield Academy to higher levels of excellence, protecting and promoting the school’s reputation as a premier Midwest college preparatory school. A fervent supporter of independent education, he sits on the board of The Independent School Management Consortium and he has presented at an Independent Schools of Central States Conference. Dr. Solsrud's doctoral dissertation studied the use of mission statements to recruit, hire, and mentor independent school teachers. He serves on the Board of Directors of The Wisconsin Forum and on the Education Board Committee at Prairie School in Racine. He volunteers as a nursing home visitor through Elmbrook Church. Dr. Solsrud and his wife, Karen, BA's recently retired Lower School art teacher, are the parents of two daughters, both of whom graduated from the Academy; Kristin ('91) is a pediatrician in Phoenix, Arizona, and Becky ('93) teaches at a private school in Milwaukee. |
