Board of Directors
The Brookfield Academy Board of Directors is comprised of individuals who bring special talents, insight, and knowledge that greatly benefit the Academy. They bring wisdom and experiences to their responsibility to ensure the long-term viability of the school and to foster the Academy's mission and philosophy now and in the years to come. The Board includes current and alumni parents, as well as alumni of the school. The Academy is grateful that they have volunteered their time in order to help lead BA into the future.
Mr. William R. Law '71 has been a Brookfield Academy Board member since 1988 and currently serves as President. He is the son of one of the school's founding families, William L. and Mary Law, and was present on the first day of classes in 1962. He most recently served as Board Vice Chair and as Chair of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. BJ received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University in 1975 and entered the family leather tanning business, Law Tanning Company. He and his wife, Michelle Waldron '73 Law, also a BA graduate, have two sons who graduated from BA - Ryan '98 and Jonathan '02. He counts his hobbies as bicycling, golfing, fishing, and BA.
Mr. Edward M. Aprahamian '79 is an alumnus of Brookfield Academy and has a daughter Allison who is a member of the class of 2015. He and his wife Mary live in Brookfield. Ed received both a BA and an MS in real estate finance and investment analysis (Grasskamp Program) from the University of Wisconsin and is President of MidAmerican Building Services. He has served on various boards of directors, including the US Small Business Administration - Regulatory Fairness Board and the Wisconsin Health and Educational Facilities Authority Board. He is also currently a board member and treasurer of the New American Policy Institute.
Atty. Cynthia M. Davis '98 attended BA from Level A until graduation. She is a granddaughter of one of the school's founding families, Walter and Betty Davis, and the daughter of the late Board Chair, Stewart Davis. Cindy served on the Development Committee prior to joining the Board. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and French from DePauw University and a Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School. Cindy was appointed to Branch 21 of the Milwaukee County Circuit Court by Governor Scott Walker in February of 2016. She previously served as an Assistant District Attorney with the State of Wisconsin.
Treasurer Chair, Finance Committee
Mr. Michael J. Francis is a BA parent and currently serves as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. He and his wife, Marchella, have five children at the Academy: Peter, Josie, Spencer, Ian, and Maria. Mike is President and Chief Investment Officer of Francis Investment Counsel, LLC, located in Pewaukee, WI. He is a graduate of Carleton College with a degree in economics and Marquette University Law School. Currently, he also serves on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Metropolitan Milwaukee and the Junior Knights Football Club.
Chair, Development Committee
Dr. Daniel J. Geenen is a current BA parent, serves as Chair of the Development Committee, and co-chaired the Soar with the Stars capital campaign. He and his wife, Carol, have four children at the Academy: Matt, Bryan, Ellie, and Lauren. Dan is a physician with GI Associates and serves on the Alumni Association Board of the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he received his MD after completing undergraduate work at Marquette University.
Mr. R. Jeffrey Harris co-chaired the Soar with the Stars capital campaign. He and his wife, Cynthia, have one BA graduate: Sarah. A lawyer and former general counsel to Apogent, he now invests in a number of private and public biotechnology companies, as well as assisting them with organization and board work. He obtained a degree in economics from Ohio Wesleyan University and a JD from The Ohio State University College of Law. He is on the boards of the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts and Tall Pines Conservancy.
Chair, Buildings and Grounds Committee
Mr. Michael T. Malatesta is a BA parent and serves as Chair of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. He and his wife, Jamy, have two children at the Academy: Morgan and Rachel. He is a graduate of Dickinson College and is President of Advanced Waste Services, Inc. Mike serves on the Town Bank of Elm Grove Board of Advisors and is involved with the Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful organization.
Secretary Chair, Education Committee
Dr. Malaika Mathai '86 Kodali is an alumna of Brookfield Academy and a current BA parent. She and her husband, Satish, have three boys at the Academy: Rajiv, Ravi, and Sanjiv. Malaika was in the Target MD program at UW-Milwaukee and graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is a physician practicing internal medicine. Malaika has been a member of the Board since 2003 and currently serves as Secretary, and Chair of the Education Committee.
Mr. Joel G. Nettesheim is a Principal at SVA Certified Public Accountants, S.C. and a member of the Business Advisory Services Group. He and his wife Donna formed the Patriots Legacy Fund. They have two daughters who graduated from the Academy: Laura '10 and Catherine '12. Joel is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He serves on various boards of directors, including 1st Stage Children's Theater, Caritas for Children, Sharp Literacy, Inc., and Variety - The Children's Charity.
Mr. Michael D. Simmons '80 is a BA alumnus, serves as Vice-President and member of the Finance Committee. A graduate of Ripon College, he earned an MBA from UW-Madison. He heads Simmons Financial Management, Inc. He also chairs the board of the Congregational Home and is Treasurer of First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa. Michael and his wife, Kerri, have two children at BA: Ryan and Rachel.
Mrs. Mary J. York, a Board member since 1986, has served on various committees and currently chairs the Marketing Committee. Mary graduated with a BA from Northwestern University in 1967. She and her husband, Merrill, have three children who graduated from the Academy: David York '88, Susan Jeide '91, and Carolyn Nowacki '95. Mary's grandchildren now attend BA. She is a Board Member of the Center for Communication for the Hard of Hearing and Deaf; Member of the Board of Governors of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches; and Member of the Junior League of Milwaukee.
